About Rainbow Sign and Banner
Rainbow sign and Design Inc. is a new corporation (established in 1997) structured to design, create and manufacture
signs for both the large and small business. Rainbow Sign and Design has the unique ability to customize
an image for our customers, not just a sign. It is the belief of current marketing organizations the
"number of stores shopped in America is decreasing, so the number of retailers hoping to be the primary
supplier is rapidly increasing." According to statistics provided by Britt C. Beemer in his book Predatory
Marketing, by the year 2000, Americans will shop 1.3 stores per major purchase. It is Rainbow Sign and
Design's goal and purpose to create an image for our clients so their business is the first one their customer thinks of.
Features
Rainbow strives to make buying a sign as convenient as possible. Rainbow has designed the layout of our front office
to be inviting to the customer; a creative place where we work with the customer to create and design their
image. One of Rainbow's main features is the inviting, comfortable environment that encourages the
customer to feel good about their decision to use Rainbow SIgn and Design, Inc.
Top employees of Rainbow have a strong understanding of substrates. We know what is available and keep
in contact with our vendors, learning of new materials and products so we can recommend the
highest quality material to our customers. This knowledge allows us to build with quality materials that will last.
Rainbow sign has established quality requirements for its products. These requirements demand that every product
have a professional appearance, one that meets or exceeds the customer's expectations.
Rainbow Sign and Design is a custom sign fabricator, our products are built in-house. This feature allows
us to produce signs more quickly, customized to the customer and unique in the marketplace.
Rainbow's customers and markets vary, yet all Rainbow customers are faced with the same problems. They are
competing with a whole new world of what we like to call "Cyber-salespeople". Instant access to almost any
information via the television, telephone or internet. This technology makes it possible for customers to buy
products without leaving their living room couch. Therefore, the need to create a more dynamic store image and
in-store communications through graphics and signage has risen to a new level. Nowadays, peoples needs to be
such that when one thinks of a need or a product, he or she automatically recognizes the place to buy it,
wanting to go to such a business. As mentioned, Rainbow's goal is to provide an image-not just signage.
What does that color say? - Choosing the colors that help you say what you mean.
Imagine, for a moment, that you're talking to a person you've just met. After a few minutes of conversation they say, "You are exactly how I thought you would be" How would you interpret that statement? What if they said it with a genuine looking smile on their face? What would you think if they looked angry when they said it? You would judge their intent, by their tone, facial expression and body language. In the world of graphic design, the equivalent of non-verbal communication is color and layout. In this article I will focus on color.
Colors are chosen for a many reasons, some are chosen for visibility, like traffic warning signs, some because they carry a meaning, like red and green for Christmas, or they may be chosen simply because we like them, they may even be associated with the group we want to belong to. Anyone driving past a high school, will quickly recognize which group each teen wants to be associated with by the way they dress. As business owners, we still use colors to build rapport with our potential clients.
One of the industries that seem to understand this concept best is professional sports. Look at the NFL team, the Oakland Raiders. Their colors are black and silver. They have a huge following of "bad boys" that love to wear the team's colors. More and more, we see teams using black as one of their colors. As a society we equate the color black with being tough, mean, or rebellious. So the color black, used with silver gives the Raiders the image they are looking for, a tough team to meet on the field. Imagine for a moment if their colors were pink and sky blue, would anyone think of them as tough competitors? Would we see overweight men, painted in pink and blue dancing in the bleachers? Probably not.
Lets look at your business now. What kind of colors should you use? What color will best carry your message to your? The answer is really quite simple, think about your clients and picture what colors and styles of clothes they wear. A motorcycle dealer would use black with another strong color to offset and accentuate the black. The logo would probably have sharp edges and might involve an animal like an eagle or wolf. A day care facility would use pastels, probably pink and light blues, for the little girls and boys.
Take a moment now and think about your clients. What colors do they seem to like? Should your colors be "soft" or "hard"? Would certain colors actually repel your potential clients?
Once you have chosen some colors that seem to fit your clients, now you should think about how visible those colors will be together. For example, you wouldn't want to use a dark brown and black together because the colors would just blend together making it difficult, if not impossible, for some of you clients to read. You would also want to make sure the colors don't clash or already belong to some other idea or group. For example, red, yellow and green are already associated with Reggae and wouldn't make a good choice for a country western clothing store.
The location of your sign will also help you determine which colors to use. Use colors that stand out from the background. For example, if the sign will be on a cinder block wall, you would want to avoid too many grey tones, otherwise your sign will blend right in to the wall. Or if your sign is in the middle of trees, you'd want to use colors that stood out from the green and browns of the trees.
At Rainbow Sign and Banner, we know how to use color to emphasize your business's message. Give us a call and let us help you design a sign or banner that match your business, and more importantly, that will match what your clients will want to see. We'll make sure that everything about your sign conveys the right message.
Tips for Effective signs
Be Consistent
Make sure that all of your marketing, from your flyers to your signs, maintains a theme. By doing this, people will find it easier to differentiate you from your competitors Follow the example of Nike, McDonalds, Coke or any of the other big name companies from around the world. Stick to the same font and color to increase your branding.
Feature your name
In service oriented industries like real estate, people are more comfortable dealing with an individual rather that a faceless corporation. As a realtor you are your own brand, make sure people can easily tell when you have listed a home. Always use fonts that are clear and easy to read for your name. When possible, use your picture on your marketing materials. It is also advisable to have a logo designed for you. Use every opportunity to add that personal touch that will make people more comfortable coming to you with their questions and business.
Spend wisely, not just less
Managing costs is a key to higher profits, but managing doesn’t always mean going with the cheapest product. Invest in quality materials and designs to add to your image of a professional. There are many sign materials that are commonly used in many parts of the country that can’t stand up to the climate in Iron Country. Avoid signs made of MDF or Corex except for weekend events like open houses as they will deteriorate quickly or even blow away.
One way to save money is to use pre-printed signs. A pre-printed sign will have your information printed directly to the face of the sign leaving an open area for you to add vinyl letters describing an individual property. The pre-printed portion can be as detailed as you like using your colors and even your picture, which will help you in your branding. Once a property is sold, you can have the vinyl letters removed and new ones applied for a new property.
